Business Case
We
developed a sophisticated data logger for monitoring electrical
submersible pumps (ESP). The data logger gathers key data and
provides the operator with information used to optimise production.
In
this application, several pieces of existing equipment are
replaced by the unit and, at the same time, it provides the ability to
add additional data sources. It is significantly lower in cost.
The data logger has been very successful both for our customer and the
end users. It has been installed in various countries in Northern
Africa and the Middle East as well as USA and Canada.
The technology used could be applied to pumps handling oil and gas, water
or water/gas mixtures in deep well and mining applications.

The Product in Detail
The data logger was developed around a Rabbit Semiconductor OP7200
OEM operator interface.
To gather data the data logger interfaces to other equipment using serial RS232 and RS485
ports.
It uses various standard and custom protocols. It also collects data from gauges using 4 to 20mA
current
loops.

OP7200
|
This
product is highly configurable and has many operating modes
which make it compatible with equipment at existing installations.
A website communicates using the
OP7200's ethernet port. The operator can configure the product on-site using a laptop or PDA. The
webpages can also be used to download the logged data and event log. Alternatively, the product can be configured via the
keypad.
Using the same software the OP7200 can be configured for
half-a-dozen different applications and interface with the equipment at
each installation site.
The 320x240 graphic display is used to display data, graph logged parameters,
configure the I/O options, and to display and configure alarms.
